Orava Castle Slovakia
So I am now in Slovakia and my friend asked me to checkout lining fabrics for her to see if it cost less there than at home. The price turned out to be just about the same. Now with that over I paid a visit to the Orava castle and I was impressed.
The Orava Castle was built on a high rock beside the Orava River and is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful castles anyone will encounter in Slovakia.
Build in the 13th century this castle stands as the bold testament of centuries old revolutions. After severe damage, the Orava Castle was restored significantly by Joseph Palffy. The restoration significantly helped in re-establishing the beauty and glory of the castle. The castle is located near the village of Oravsky Podzamok and it is surrounded by beautiful wooden forts and was built in the year 1241 following the Tartar invasion.
The castle has three entrance gates which connect to a tunnel leading up to the dungeon. A museum in itself, the castle has an extensive collection of medieval furniture and artifacts from the Renaissance Era.
The Castle is a whopping 112 meters above the Orava River, but is quite convenient for tourists to visit and the visitors are required to buy tickets before entering. The ticket office is located below the castle and costs 4.5 Euros for adults, while children below the age of six can enter for free. Disabled and pensioners have to pay 2.5 Euros, while visitors intending to use a camera have to pay an additional 1.5 Euro.
