Traveling To Wales? Go See The Castles
It is amazing to me that we live in a country and do not get to see what tourist see when they visit. As I am travelling a friend of mine suggest that I go see some of the over 600 castles in Wales. I never thought of this before and just envisioning what it would be like was enough for me to go. Thinking of times past, the knights, the court jester, men and women in dance fabrics prancing around, and the ruggedness of it all. So I went to see a number of castles. Here are a few that impressed me.
Pembroke CastleLocated in southern Wales this castle has stood for over 917 years and dates back to the time of the Norman invasion. It was a fortification and was fitted with, a tea room, a prison, and the nice stained windows. This is where the first Tudor king, Henry VII was born and is an impressive site to behold and explore.
Caernarfon Castle
Arguably the Wales’ most impressive castle and can be found near the centre of Anglesey and North Wales on the Menai Strait. This castles was built in 1090 and formed a part of Edward I power ring in the region. The first designation of Prince of Wales was bestowed on Edward the first English Prince with that title, at this castle.
Conwy CastleThis castle will blow you away because it is as impressive as it is massive. In 1287 King Edward 1 had this castle build to subdue any would be rebellion. The towers are so high and one good thing is that you can walk through it. Fantastic.
