The Bliss of the French Riviera

One of the most wonderful experiences I have ever had was visiting the sunny and friendly French Riviera and more precisely – Nice, its shining pearl. The most exquisite hue of blue sea water, combined with the fresh and green palm trees everywhere made me forget that this wonderful spot is actually in Europe and not in one exotic part of the world, many kilometres away. Shopping, dining and wining is top class and let’s not forget the gorgeous French girls that will capture your smile instantly.

Why I Hate Skegness.

Because I am a traveller with a superiority complex, there are certain places that I would simply flat-out refuse to visit at all. Now, whilst this may sound nice and clear cut, there happens to be a bit of a down side to it… You see, I can only say that I would not visit these locales because I have already been unfortunate enough to have gone to them at some point in the past! Oh well, it’s all part of a discerning traveller’s learning curve I suppose….

However, there are one or two places out there that are especially bad; places that make me shudder whenever I hear them mentioned. And one of these happens to be Skegness.

Travelling for a reason- is it a bad thing?

Is it wrong to travel so that one can write about it? I have received comments from several persons who have complained that I tend to focus on those travel destinations that help me write interesting blog posts. Well, I do not deny that my travelling is done primarily to help me add value to my blogs. However, those who have read my work will confirm that this is not just about writing blogs alone.

Travel- find the real world outside

Have you ever felt very smart and intelligent after using a data recovery London software application properly? People often feel smug when they extract information that was supposed to have been deleted. However, my experiences and travels have taught me that recovering stuff in the virtual world is a lot easier than manipulating stuff in the real world. Have you ever tried to light a fire without using matchsticks? Well, you will be surprised how quickly you do all that is necessary to light a fire when you are stranded in the middle of nowhere in the middle of night without a light in hand.

Zakopane – Poland’s Not So Secret Treasure

Whenever a traveler hits a new location and simply cannot understand why they have never been before, it could be that they simply have missed out by chance, or perhaps it is that the locals and loyal visitors simply wish to keep it a secret. This is exactly the feeling thousands have all year round when first laying eyes on Poland’s Zakopane, but it has to be said that the latter reason really does not apply.

Clare – Gem of Ireland’s West

When most think of Ireland, the immediate locations that spring to mind are of course Dublin, Cork and maybe to a lesser extent Galway. However, while such towns and cities have their own exquisite charms, those looking for a taste of the real Ireland may do well consider a few alternatives. If the idea of taking a step back in time and experiencing a living postcard, County Clare holds more treasures than the proverbial stick can be shaken at.

Beginning with the true home and heart of Irish music, Doolin is village of essentially a single narrow road, a scattering of residences and three or four local pubs. There is simply no place on earth more perfect to see an achingly wonderful stereotype brought to life, as each place bursts into life every night with the best music, laughter and ‘craic'to be found anywhere in the country which is nothing less than spellbinding.

Moving a little further south is Lahinch, where Ireland meets the Atlantic in the most spectacular though charmingly quaint of fashion. This is your typical British-esque seaside resort where nothing has been lost for hundreds of years. On the journey from Doolin, take in the Cliffs of Moher, Europe’s highest for one of the best displays of the power of nature in the world today.

Lastly, no trip here would be complete without a wander around the Burren coastline, where landscapes more akin to far off planets regularly show the hybrid cars UK travellers bring over exactly why the tractor reigns supreme on the Emerald Isle! Brave the terrain and the reward is a truly unique and awe-inspiring ancient landscape.

Undiscovered Spain

So where to next you ask? Well if you are into wildlife, beautiful scenery, lovely beaches and experiencing a slice of untouched local culture then Spain is the place for you; Northern Spain to be precise. Galicia is a treasure trove of beauty which is largely undiscovered by mass tourism. It is a different world from the tourist ridden southern coast which has become overrun with sun seekers. The north has some of the best beaches in Europe, and there are plenty of things do experience whilst you stay. I really had no idea that Spain had such a vast array of mountain valleys with beautiful gorges, damns, and canyons. I always imagined it as the beach holiday hotspot of the Costa del Sol. There are secluded waterfalls set into the mountainside, hidden beaches by the vast and picturesque rivers, and great views around every corner. If you have had enough of the same old corporate hotels then there are a whole host of beautiful little villas in every village. If you are looking for something even more interesting and relaxing to stay in then you could look at Mino Valley Retreats. Here you can stay an either a traditional Mongolian Yurt or a Tipi. I only managed to find out about this area as I saw vinyl stickers advertising it on a car in front of me on my way to the airport last month. How glad I am now that I wrote the name down and looked into it.

So before you dismiss Spain as your next port of call, look into what you might be missing out on in Galicia. Flights go into Santiago de Compostelo, Vigo, and A Coruna, and from here, a car hire is the best way to get out and explore.

The Iguazu Falls Argentina

We were checking out dance fabrics when my friend asked me if I had ever vacationed in Argentina and visited the Iguazu Falls. I had, and here is some of what I shared with her.

Hailed as one of the world’s most amazing places, the Iguazu Falls in Argentina are truly a dazzling sight. The falls, which are among the world’s most wondrous, are located in northeast Argentina.

The word “Iguazu mean “big water” in the local language, and indeed the falls are big and watery. The tallest waterfall is almost 300 feet high – that’s as tall as a 24-story building!

The Iguazu Falls are actually comprised of 275 separate waterfalls that span a stretch of three kilometers of river. One third of the falls are officially outside of Argentina in Brazil.

If you plan on visiting, be sure to view the falls on the various walkways and trails. A tour (either by boat or jeep) will offer a different perspective of these stunning waterfalls. If you wish to see them by helicopter, you will need to go to the Brazil side. The consensus, though, is that the best views are from Argentina.

You can get to Puerto Iguazu, which is mere miles from the waterfalls, by direct flight from Buenos Aires. May is considered the best time to visit, since it is less crowded and warmer. If you want to see the falls when they are at their strongest, though, the rainy season, from December to February, is best. <

Orava Castle Slovakia

So I am now in Slovakia and my friend asked me to checkout lining fabrics for her to see if it cost less there than at home. The price turned out to be just about the same. Now with that over I paid a visit to the Orava castle and I was impressed.

The Orava Castle was built on a high rock beside the Orava River and is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful castles anyone will encounter in Slovakia.

Build in the 13th century this castle stands as the bold testament of centuries old revolutions. After severe damage, the Orava Castle was restored significantly by Joseph Palffy. The restoration significantly helped in re-establishing the beauty and glory of the castle. The castle is located near the village of Oravsky Podzamok and it is surrounded by beautiful wooden forts and was built in the year 1241 following the Tartar invasion.

The castle has three entrance gates which connect to a tunnel leading up to the dungeon. A museum in itself, the castle has an extensive collection of medieval furniture and artifacts from the Renaissance Era.

The Castle is a whopping 112 meters above the Orava River, but is quite convenient for tourists to visit and the visitors are required to buy tickets before entering. The ticket office is located below the castle and costs 4.5 Euros for adults, while children below the age of six can enter for free. Disabled and pensioners have to pay 2.5 Euros, while visitors intending to use a camera have to pay an additional 1.5 Euro.

Traveling To Wales? Go See The Castles

It is amazing to me that we live in a country and do not get to see what tourist see when they visit. As I am travelling a friend of mine suggest that I go see some of the over 600 castles in Wales. I never thought of this before and just envisioning what it would be like was enough for me to go. Thinking of times past, the knights, the court jester, men and women in dance fabrics prancing around, and the ruggedness of it all. So I went to see a number of castles. Here are a few that impressed me.

Pembroke Castle

Located in southern Wales this castle has stood for over 917 years and dates back to the time of the Norman invasion. It was a fortification and was fitted with, a tea room, a prison, and the nice stained windows. This is where the first Tudor king, Henry VII was born and is an impressive site to behold and explore.

Caernarfon Castle

Arguably the Wales’ most impressive castle and can be found near the centre of Anglesey and North Wales on the Menai Strait. This castles was built in 1090 and formed a part of Edward I power ring in the region. The first designation of Prince of Wales was bestowed on Edward the first English Prince with that title, at this castle.

Conwy Castle

This castle will blow you away because it is as impressive as it is massive. In 1287 King Edward 1 had this castle build to subdue any would be rebellion. The towers are so high and one good thing is that you can walk through it. Fantastic.
